How To Offer Facebook Ads as a Social Media Manager

Facebook ads are nothing new in the world of socials. If you are a social media manager who is considering offering paid social media as a service, it can be difficult to choose where to start with this.

We pulled the most frequently asked questions from our Facebook group for social media managers to help you learn more about these services and how to offer them as a freelancer.

Where do I run the Facebook ad?

  • Inside each client's Ads Manager.

How do I charge for ads?

  • The client can input their billing, payment method, and tax info for the account, so it's billed directly to them! In terms of how to break them down on packages, we recommend putting ads as separate add-ons (per ad) and then clients can add them to their existing package. For this though, you'd be billing them only for your time/effort to create and run the ad and then the budget for the ad is billed directly to them in addition to your fees.

Can I offer both organic and paid social?

  • Yes! You are your own boss, so you can choose to offer both or either service, separately. Offering both paid and organic can be a great way to ensure that both strategies work cohesively and complement each other. If not, partner with an SMM who offers the opposite service and work closely with them on the campaigns with clients.

How much to spend on Ads?

  • It's important to note that a bigger budget doesn't always translate to a more successful campaign. So, when it comes to how much to spend on ads, you have to carefully consider all of the following factors

  • your goals (awareness, engagement, leads)

  • size of your target audience

  • the campaign type

  • your overall marketing budget

  • common industry benchmarks

Here's an example:

  • Goal: Generate 100 website purchases.

  • Average Conversion Rate: 2%.

  • Traffic Needed: 5,000 visitors (100 purchases รท 2%).

  • Cost Per Click (CPC): $1.50.

  • Estimated Budget: 5,000 clicks x $1.50 = $7,500.

It's always helpful to run an initial test with the ad, too, and this can help you determine and adjust your budget from there.

Where can I learn more about ads to become an expert?

  • There are lots of great resources out there. I'd start with Meta's free courses as a starting point to learn the basics. From there, we would recommend advancing your skills in a trusted course. We love the Profitable Ads Blueprint with Megha Khosla it includes all you need to know about Facebook & Instagram Ads in straightforward, bite-sized steps that just about anyone can grasp!
