Why You Should Take a "Spring Break" as a Social Media Manager

Hustle culture is out! We are over the working late nights and losing weekends. Instead, we are prioritizing breaks, self-care, and flexible schedules.

As a social media manager, you're constantly plugged in, juggling content creation and multiple clients, and keeping up with ever-changing trends and platforms. But have you considered that stepping away for a short break might actually benefit both you and your business?

This is the perfect time of year to take a break, get outside, and enjoy the weather (or go someplace with better weather for our northies reading this!) So, here's why you should consider taking an SMM "spring break."

Why You Need a Break As a Social Media Manager:

Prevent Burnout

Burnout is difficult to come back from, so why risk it? Social media moves at lightning speed, and if you’re constantly chasing trends without a break, burnout is inevitable. Plus, we work in such a creative field, so we need time to recharge and return with fresh ideas!

Your Audience Won’t Disappear

Babe, you pay that schedule tool fee for a reason! A well-planned break means that your account can stay active while you rest. Or even channel that 'absence makes the heart grow fonder' vibe and go ghost mode (well, maybe you should mention that you're OOO but you get the picture), and build up suspense for your return. You audience isn't going to get up and leave while you're gone, trust us!

Work-Life Balance

Ever heard of her? If you’re constantly preaching the importance of balance to your clients, it’s time to practice what you post! Showing that you can take time off while maintaining engagement proves that social media can (and should) be sustainable.

Refresh

Just like spring cleaning, a break helps you declutter your mind and your workflow. Come back refreshed, with a renewed strategy and energy to execute it. When you turn off your brain from work mode, you might actually find the best inspiration is all around you!

How to Actually Take a Spring Break:

  1. Schedule: Use scheduling tools and automated emails to schedule your work in advance.

  2. Set Up Auto-Replies: Whether that's your OOO email, or even one in your DMs or comments, set up an autoresponder to let people know when you'll be back so you aren't constantly checking in.

  3. Communicate Your Break: Let your clients or followers know you’re taking a short break, it helps set expectations for response times!

  4. Check-in (If Needed): If a full break makes you anxious, set limited times to check notifications without getting sucked back in!

So, there you have it...you aren't leaving money on the table when you take time for yourself, your clients won't get up and leave because you're taking a vacation, and it won't be the end of the world to walk away from your phone and computer.

Taking a break means prioritizing yourself so you can show up better and refreshed for your business. Whether it’s a weekend getaway, a few days off, or simply reducing screen time, a little reset can go a long way! Oh, and send us pics from your vaycay, we want to see all the views!
